TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
UMD Human Resources offers training and workshops related to professional
development, supervisory development, personal development, wellness,
health and safety.
UMD TOBACCO/SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAM (TSCP)
Open to all employees. If you're looking to quit, the UMD Tobacco/Smoking
Cessation program is here to help. Our team of health professionals
will assist you in creating a customized plan to become tobacco free.
We will support you along the way with guidance from a qualified health
educator, prescriptions for tobacco cessation medications, and medication
counseling from a qualified pharmacist. The counseling program is free
for UMD faculty, staff, and their families.
There is a Smoking Cessation workshop scheduled on Monday, October
19, at 12:00-1:00 p.m. in KSC 323.
HEALTH & WELLNESS FAIR
Thursday, November 5, Ballroom, 10:00-3:00
Whether it's choosing the medical/dental plan option during Open Enrollment
that's right for you, picking the right investment, or learning about
the University wellness initiatives, wellness and safety related issues,
you will find helpful information at the Fair.
Open Enrollment runs from November 1-30, 2009 and takes effect January
1, 2010. You will receive the Open Enrollment booklet from University
Employee Benefits in October.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
St. Luke's EAP provides assessment and referral services to promote the
health of employees and their immediate family members and use as a preventative
service and crisis intervention service for personal and job-related problems.
Available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, to make an appointment or for

UMD EMPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAM INITIATIVES
The UMD wellness initiatives are available to faculty and staff. Upon
completion of one of the initiative options, an employee may be eligible
to receive a UMD Cookbook or EHWC imprinted water bottle. The UMD Cookbook
consists of recipes donated by UMD employees.
UMD HIP (Health Improvement Program)
It is free and designed to help faculty and staff who are: looking for
a safe and effective health behavior change program, striving to reach
their optimal health, and looking to improve nutrition and exercise habits
as well as stress management and overall wellness. Meeting is scheduled
every Tuesday. Weigh-ins start at 11:45 a.m. Meeting starts at 12:00 noon
and lasts about 30-60 minutes. If you want to subscribe to the listserv

EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER (EHWC)
The Employee Health and Wellness Center was created to help UPlan members
and their dependents who are UPlan members become more healthy. It offers
a variety of services to help you obtain and maintain good health. Services
are low-cost or free to eligible UPlan members. EHWC consists of QuickCare
Clinic, Medication Therapy Management Clinic and Health Coaching.
QuickCare Clinic is a clinic for UMD employees, spouses/same-sex domestic
partners, and dependent children. An experienced nurse practitioner provides
basic services such as treating ear pain and strep, to immunizations.
Co-pay is $5.00. No appointments needed and visits usually take about
15 minutes. There is no copayment for immunizations. Free blood pressure
Medication Therapy Management Clinic (MTM) is a service offered at no
cost to eligible UPlan participants. MTM helps create a partnership between
you, your physician and a trained pharmacist, who work together to ensure
all of your medications are necessary, safe, effective and convenient.
Open to employees and dependents who are UPlan members, restrictions
The Health Coach can help motivate and encourage eligible UPlan members
to better health. The health coach provides unbiased, up-to-date information
to assist you with the development of a personalized wellness plan to
effectively change behavior. After completing the UPlan Wellness Assessment,
University employees and their spouses or same-sex domestic partners (if
covered by the UPlan Medical Program) can each earn another $65 Wellness
Reward by completing the Health Coaching program as required.
