Our bodies and minds reserve the right to respond
to certain events by making us feel stressed. The reason is that a stress
response can temporarily heighten our awareness and give us the ability
to respond quickly by providing extra energy.
Unfortunately, some people have an over-developed
stress response that results in their brain releasing important stress
hormones more often than is necessary. Long term overdoses of these hormones
result in such difficulties as reduced immune response, shrinking of parts
of the brain that are important in memory, and physical ailments.
If you find that you:
are tense much of your day
have sore/achy muscles despite a lack of physical activity
get sick more often than others around you
have difficulty concentrating or remembering things
are very tired at the end of the day, but cannot fall asleep easily at
night
You may have an overdeveloped stress response (which
often begins by experiencing significant stress as a child).
