Tech Fest

In 1996, Vince Magnuson, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Administration, made a commitment to significantly improve technology on our campus and its application to teaching. A big part of that push has been our Tech Fests and Sheri Pihlaja and Linda Blustin have been the driving force and the heart and soul behind the overwhelmingly successful Tech Fest of the last three years.

Sheri and Linda were peak performers in an incredibly complex juggling act. With the help of their units and team members, the Tech Fests were planned, organized and executed to support UMD’s mission to incorporate technology into teaching in integrative and transformational ways. Not only did they persuade the presenters to demonstrate their skills in using technological tools, but they persuaded crowds of faculty and staff to attend. The number of presenter rose from 18 in 1998 to 61 in 2001. The number of attendees rose from 400 in 1998 to 679 in 2001.

Their effort in allowing faculty to show their technological wares during the Tech Fest gives others a chance to learn from their peers. What better reason is there for presenting Sheri and Linda with this Project Award.
