Vicki Schneider
Health Services
Vicki's work as UMD Health Service's Administrative Director has been described
as "high quality, efficient, and conscientious." She has played a
key role in implementing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act (known as HIPAA) and began her work long before the university took on the
project.
Vicki was named "Privacy Coordinator" in 2002. She worked diligently
to familarize herself with areas of the law that concern private health information.
Throughout this process, Vicki took charge of student employees a nd made sure
that each area was covered.
Department head Kathy Morris said that by April 14, 2003, Vicki reached an
88% compliance rate within her team of staff. "Health Services was 98%
compliant by that date. Both achievements were remarkable."
Vicki is a true leader. She has taken on the responsiblity of training new
employees and continues to be dedicated to developing HIPAA-compliant forms
to ensure patient confidentiality.
It is for her perseverance and dedication that we honor her with this Project
award.
