Outstanding Service Award
Vickie has worked at UMD for over 16 years with numerous student, staff, faculty,
and supervisors. Over the years, her role has changed from being a Primary Support
Person as an Executive Secretary to a Front Line Office Manager. For this transition,
she has had to identify new ways to manage her functions of payroll, supplies,
supervisor, budget reconciliation, and word processing with a dramatic increased
flow of traffic and requests. She has taken the initiative to rearrange the
workspace and provide key -student coverage to be able to complete her work
while still offering a friendly place to greet students and meet their needs.
Vickie currently has five departments with over 20 full-time staff requesting
her expertise and assistance. In addition, she hires and supervises 12 student
staff to help support the Campus Center computer lab and a critical student
service office in Solon Campus Center. One of Vickie's primary functions is
student payroll where she places 250 student workers on payroll and ensures
that these students are paid in a timely and efficient manner. However, her
presence does not end with these direct connections. Vickie also provides support
to the course Introduction to College Learning (ICL) which has grown from 15
sections to 50 sections in less than 8 years. The result is that she now has
an additional 35 ICL instructors and 40 teaching assistants making requests
of her time and energy. Vickie has handled all this with gracefulness and efficiency.
For all these reasons and more, I am proud to present Vickie with this award.
