Frank Simmons
Frank Simmons personifies "above and beyond" expectations. His focus
always has been 100% customer service to users of a variety of computing and
web applications through our Help Desk, seminars, documentation, and individual
consulting. Whether he's providing support for virus removal, MS Windows reinstallation,
student account questions, statistical software support, home modem problems,
or any of a plethora of other computer problems, he provides a quality of work
above and beyond expectations.
What's just as remarkable is that he does it all in a professional manner,
with a smile and without making the clients feel like "they should have
known that." He truly wants to help people solve their problems. In the
uncommon instances where Frank doesn't already know of a solution, he enjoys
researching the problem and finding the sometimes elusive solution. Frank freely
volunteers to take on problem calls, and is willing to make "house calls"
during the day, evenings, and on weekends in order to help clients get up to
speed again.
Frank has also developed a very successful training program for our student
staff that assist at the Help Desk. Through his mentoring our students and full-time
staff both benefit greatly. His training materials and documentation have made
life easier for many here at UMD. Not confined only to providing remedies after
disasters have occurred, Frank pioneered a preventive, diagnostic service which
he calls the "MS Windows PC Assessment." This service provides a complete
assessment of a client's computer and it makes recommendations tailored to the
client's needs. Frank's excellent technical work and his talents extend to great
communication and a fantastic attitude.
For his many contributions and service to others, Frank is truly deserving
of this award.
