2005-2006 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS
Continuous Service Award
According to those who know him best, Tim “is among the most respected Environmental Educators in the Duluth community.” Tim represents Rec Sports Outdoor Program Environmental Education in its entirety. He organizes his job by doing a wide variety of activities, developing programs, providing services and advising students. The programs under Tim’s supervision are nationally recognized and highly respected and very well used by our students. Tim is also a highly respected mentor for students both professionally and personally. He is known for his ability to seek grants to provide outdoor educational opportunities that also support students’ learning. He supervises UROP projects and is integral in guiding the academic program in Outdoor and Environmental Education.
Tim played a major role in arranging for a cross-country ski donation for Stowe Elementary School so that families of children in that school who are without financial means have an opportunity to learn how to ski. He has been the lead coordinator for the Stowe School Environmental Education program for over 10 years and is the chair of the Bagley Nature Area Management Committee.
Tim has been instrumental in building library resources to help students learn about the outdoors. It is clear that Tim Bates is one of the “jewels” of our campus, an individual who stands out because of his accomplishments and what he does for our students.
It is with great pleasure to present Tim with this award.
