2005-2006 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS
Continuous Service Award
Laura Piotrowski has been the Costume Shop Supervisor in the Department of Theatre for almost 25 years. We’re told that Laura has – in one capacity or another, worked with every single faculty member and every single student that has passed through the Theatre Department over the past 25 years. Her primary responsibilities include: facilitating costume designers, guiding the students in the construction of costumes, making sure they are done on time, instructing actors how to wear and use their costumes and to manage and maintain the costumes and their storage. She devotes countless hours and frequently late night to create the quality costumes that our Theatre Department is known for.
Beside this tremendous work load, she volunteered to serve on the department’s Season Selection Committee and serve as the department’s Library Liaison. The committee is charged with reading countless numbers of plays in order to select an appropriate slate of shows for the following year’s University subscription series. Members spend many personal hours reading play after play, and meet on a weekly basis to discuss the plays’ viability for the up-coming season. According the committee chair, Laura works harder than anyone else on the committee, and puts “the rest of us to shame.” Laura is very flexible, and is accustomed to juggling many things at once. She is always there for the students – listening, watching, instructing, covering bases and consoling.
Laura loves her work, her colleagues and her students. For all the contributions that Laura makes to the Theatre Department, her colleagues feel that this recognition is long overdue.
We are happy to present Laura with this Outstanding Service award.
