2005-2006 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS
Continuous Service Award
In Dan’s 10 years with the Admissions Department, he has consistently performed far above job expectations. The Office of Admissions has eight professional staff that travel and work with students from different geographic areas. Dan has one of the largest recruiting areas and is assigned to work with one of our largest groups of prospective students. In a typical year, Dan will represent and work with 23% of our entering freshmen class. He is a dedicated employee and his quick wit and positive attitude are appreciated by his co-workers. This positive attitude rubs off and no doubt makes everyone better performers.
Dan is considered the “webmaster” in the office and has supervised the creation, maintenance, and new additions to the website, which has kept UMD ahead of our peer institutions. A couple of examples include the “Virtual Advisor” which allows prospective students to type in a question abut UMD and student is either given an answer or directed to a site that contains the answer. This has drastically reduced the number of phone calls the Department receives and improved customer service. The “Campus Visit Scheduler” is another program that Dan developed with the assistance of Travis Mayne in Systems Operations & Control Unit. This program allows prospective students or parents to log onto the website and schedule campus preview programs. It provides them with local hotel options and generates a confirmation letter. He teaches at Minnesota’s “new counselor” workshop and is an instructor to UMD’s Intro to College Learning Course. Dan is an employee who plays a tremendous role in the success of the Office of Admissions and ultimately the success of UMD and its students. I am pleased to present Dan with this Outstanding Service award.
