Outstanding Service Awards (2006-2007
Geraldine Hughes
Continuous Service Award
In a notable demonstration of dedication, when Geraldine Hughes was hired
in Political Science from Women’s Studies, she juggled positions
in both departments. She provided administrative services to Women’s
Studies until they could hire a replacement at the same time as her new
department was about to conduct three promotion and tenure reviews, all
starting from scratch and with a tight deadline. With tremendous professionalism,
she kept everything running smoothly in both departments, and even went
so far as coordinate the move and set up of the new Women’s Studies
offices.
That same dedication and initiative is evident in the other services
she has provided: offering technology and web-based assistance for courses,
assisting in coordinating and supervising the editing of a book manuscript,
preparing the North Shore Vision newsletter for Women’s Studies
by providing editing, layout, printing, new design, and even writing a
column.
Geraldine’s energies and dedication also extends to non-departmental
areas, collecting donations and walking for the American Heart Association,
as well as paddling for the UMD Bulldogs’ boat in the August 2006
Dragon-Boat Races.
