Outstanding Service Awards 2006-2007
Sharon Moen
Continuous Service Award
Sharon has approached her 75% appointment as editor for
the Minnesota Sea Grant Program with 100% of enthusiasm and dedication.
Over the past seven years, while cheerfully and reliably meeting her deadlines
and usual duties, she has generated engaging articles and innovative ideas
that advance Sea Grant’s mission.
Sharon’s writing has garnered a bevy of awards. She has written
two published books promoting the program’s missions: (1) Superior
Science: Stories of Lake Superior Research and (2) A-maze-ing Lake Superior.
Her writing skills have also contributed Sea Grant information to regional
and national magazines and newspapers, such as Cabin Life, Lake Lines
and Northern Wilds. She composes these articles in addition to performing
her usual and expected duties. And her knowledge and enjoyment of science
have enabled her to assist authors and researchers in their work, as well.
In 2005 her grant-funded proposal and work enabled Sea Grant to partner
with the Lake Superior Zoo and Spirit Mountain in the Walk, Ride, and
Runoff Event, highlighting water runoff issues. This was but one of many
community and Lake Superior projects Sharon has worked on.
