Outstanding Service Awards (2006-2007
Lauretta Perry
Continuous Service
Since UMD Health Services hired her in July 2004, to lead the department’s
Health Education unit, Lauretta Perry has worked tirelessly, both on campus
and in the community, to address health issues – particularly those
pertaining to alcohol and chemical dependency. She not only develops and
oversees all health education campaigns across campus, she also manages
the student organization, Peer Health Educators. She chairs UMD’s
Chemical Health Action Committee, oversees the student alcohol assessment
program, teaches alcohol-related Introduction to Classroom Learning classes,
and gives alcohol presentations to UMD athletic teams and Recreational
Sports clubs. And that’s just some of her reach ON campus. It doesn’t
begin to address her oversight of the Health Services Department’s
health and wellness initiative or other projects. Off-campus, Lauretta
also manages community-based alcohol outreach programming (including local
high schools and community colleges) and serves as the UMD Better Neighbors
liaison.
To best meet the needs and schedules of others, Lauretta often selflessly
dedicates her evening and weekend time to her educational and outreach
programs. She takes the time and makes the effort to understand the current
student culture so that, when proposing new campus alcohol initiatives,
she does so through their eyes and it is relevant. She is truly a dedicated,
enthusiastic and caring professional.
