2007-2008 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS
Continuous Service Award
Cheryl Reitan
All of us who work at UMD regularly come in contact with Cheryl Reitan's
contributions to the campus, whether we know it or not. Cheryl works in
University Relations and produces our campus publications: UMD's Annual
Report, Bridge and Currents, amongst others. She also is responsible for
our public image with her oversight of UMD's ads, billboards, banners
and website. Her work on behalf of the campus has won a number of notable
advertising awards.
Beyond the day-to-day work of UMD publications and advertising, Cheryl
regularly serves or volunteers in other areas that reflect well on our
campus. She took the lead with Phi Sigma Sigma on organizing a trip to
help to build a home in post-Katrina New Orleans. She worked with the
UMD Office of Civic Engagement and the Lake Superior Ad Federation on
an ad campaign regarding the dangers of methamphetamine. She organized
and heads the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Committee of UMD. She heads the
UMD Communicator's Council, is involved with the Lake Superior Ad Federation
and is a member of the Lake Superior Writers' group. In her spare time...
she mentors at least three students per semester, assisting with their
skills development.
For her many contributions on behalf of UMD and our community, we are
proud to provide Cheryl with this award.
