2007-2008 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS
Continuous Service Award
Xiping Wang
Xiping Wang, is a Senior Research Associate for Natural Resources Research
Institute at the USDA Forest Products Lab in Madison, Wisconsin, conducting
research on wood materials. He is "internationally recognized as
a leading nondestructive evaluation of wood researcher." This research
includes assessing quality of standing trees, condition assessment of
wood materials (including research projects involving historic wood structures
like the WAPAMA, a historic wood schooner in San Francisco) and structural
condition assessment research, aimed at assessing the structural integrity
of timber bridges (of great interest, particularly after the I-35 bridge
collapse).
Beyond Xiping's research and publishing, he has brought significant positive
attention to the University through his work on a 2005 trade mission to
China and co-chairing the 2007 international symposium in Duluth that
was attended by participants from 19 countries. He serves as Vice-Chair
of the Midwest Section of Forest Products Society and is a sought-after
speaker. His efforts have resulted in more than 100 technical reports/publications,
many published in prestigious international journals.
Xiping's research brings international renown to NRRI and UMD and I am
pleased to be able to present him with this Outstanding Service Award.
