2008-2009 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS
Continuous Service Award
Occasionally, you run across an employee who is so responsive and so proactive in approach, that it seems they are able to “read” what the issues will be and respond before the need is even identified. The Labovitz School of Business and Economics has one of those employees: Vickie Almquist-Minko.
Vickie is noted in LSBE for her willingness to cheerfully take on any task – large or small. It can be a matter of taking on less desirable projects, like cleaning and organizing storage space. Or, it can be major and significant, like jumping in to help organize the move to a new building (done while she was in the midst of the EFS conversion!).
But what really comes through in Vickie’s nomination is her innovation and initiative, the ability to recognize a need – before most others see it – and then promptly set about addressing the need. This was evidenced in a variety of processes she developed for LSBE: their inventory system, the procedures and forms she created to comply with financial policies, and the enhancements to the loaner laptop program among others.
For her extraordinary innovation and commitment to LSBE, UMD and its students, I am pleased to present this award to Vickie.
