2008-2009 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS
Project Award
Kevin Claus
Last summer, Kevin Claus led work on the upgrades to a couple of primary corridors: Concourse A (known by most of us as the corridor from Darland to Kirby Student Center) and Sophie’s Concourse which runs between Residence Dining center and Housing.
If you think back a year ago, you might remember that Concourse A was lost in the decades. The overall look was vintage (but not in a good way), looking dingy, cramped and very outdated. It was also, unfortunately, on the route for student tours. It didn’t give a great impression about our campus and, despite its very public location, lacked the pizzazz of our more updated spaces.
Major changes included removing some of the lockers and recessing the recycling bins to make for extra space. The old tile floor was replaced with attractive terrazzo tile, and the old booths were changed out for modern furniture. It now is bright and inviting, and scarcely looks like the same area. Likewise, Sophie’s Concourse was upgraded in a similar fashion. It now has more natural light and the existing lighting, signage and paint have all been improved.
For helping us to have more modern, inviting spaces, I’m pleased to present this award to Kevin.
