2008-2009 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS
Continuous Service Award
It was said of Mick McComber that his “default mindset is forward-looking. If there is something new that can benefit UMD and can be done with Recreational Sports and Outdoor Program, he is always willing to put in the time and effort to see what is possible.” This is certainly borne out by his interaction with other areas.
Mick is always looking for ways that his department can interface with others to enhance the student experience at UMD. His work with First Year Experience, Kirby Student Center, Housing and many others, reflects the important role that Mick sees for RSOP in the educational process. Likewise, his work with campus Physical Facilities, Welcome Week, and Student Development committees promotes the contribution RSOP can make in non-educational areas. it isn’t just students that have benefitted from Mick’s efforts. His success in making the Sports and Health Center an eligible fitness facility for insurance health club incentive reimbursement, has provided a boon to faculty & staff who are enjoying both the financial benefit and convenience of exercising on campus as well as staying healthy.
Mick has been an inspirational colleague and mentor to those in the RSOP area and many of them mentioned his high standards, pursuit of excellence and support of their professional growth. For his many efforts on behalf of our entire campus community, I’m pleased to present Mick with this award.
