UMD "Student Employee of the Year" 2006

UMD Student Employee of the Year

Kyle LeNeau

I would hereby like to nominate Kyle LeNeau for the Student Employee of the Year. Kyle has worked as a student programmer for ITSS for a little over 11 months and has been a valuable asset to our department. During his time with ITSS he has developed into a great programmer and has taken on and successfully completed many large projects.

Kyle is the type of employee who will work on something until it is to the specifications of the customer and makes sure that his code is documented and clearly written. He was able to help develop our new code framework for all of our current and future projects, which is based on a methodology of programming call the model view controller. To go along with the framework he also built a logging system to allow the programmers to see and log messages in order to debug their code.

One of Kyle’s main strong points is his willingness to help others when they need it. He is a role model for the newer student programmers and even some full time staff members. He helps them learn our programming techniques and all of the various systems that the programs reside on. He recently helped one of our full time staff members learn how to work on her current web-programming project and I have heard nothing but compliments from this staff person on how helpful he was.

Kyle has been instrumental in helping ITSS develop an online system for its students to view their schedules and also login to their work shifts. The system includes a feature that allows supervisors in each area of ITSS to automatically print timesheets for their employees. This system has really helped save time and effort for all student employees and supervisors.

Overall Kyle is a very dependable and self-motivated student employee. He has solid customer service skills and great programming background. Please accept the enclosed nomination form for Student Employee of the Year.
