UMD Employee Wellness Program
Group Health Coaching Program

Are you looking to make healthy lifestyle changes? Join the Group Health Coaching Program!

What is Group Health Coaching?

The Group Health Coaching Program involves weekly 30-minute meetings, weigh-ins, and goal setting. It’s a 10-week program to improve health behaviors in Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitudes, Relationships, & Nutrition. The Group Health Coaching program focuses on using self-monitoring, problem solving, and goal setting to promote an overall lifestyle change, including improved eating habits and activity levels.

It focuses on unique goals in a supportive small group environment. This program offers support, accountability, motivation and resources to help you reach your wellness goals.  Additionally, the Group Health Coaching Program aims to build community and provides a fresh approach to health coaching through shared, yet self-selected behavior change goals related to healthy lifestyles.

Who may participate:

Faculty and staff. You do not need to be a UPlan member to participate. If you are a UPlan member, you can earn up to 150 points for attending 8 out of 10 meetings.

Benefits of Attending Group Health Coaching

Although the idea of Group Health Coaching can seem intimidating, recent research suggests that it is extremely useful for support, accountability and motivation when trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Successful weight loss programs throughout the world, such as Weight Watchers and Weight Loss Centers, use group strategies for the same reasons.

Each person in the group is determined in improving their lifestyle in one way or another. Typically, it’s not the first time each individual has attempted to change the way they live, so a group setting is a good way to compile different approaches, challenges, and experiences, providing direct support and motivation.

Surrounding yourself with other individuals looking to better their life is one of the best ways to stick to your ultimate goal!

What does it cost?

FREE!  This 10-week program is offered at different locations throughout the United States for over $200!  Here at UMD we are offering it at no cost to all UMD faculty and staff!

Is it eligible for Wellness Points Bank?

YES! For UPlan members, it’s an easy way to earn up to a possible 200 points for your Wellness Points Bank and greatly improve your lifestyle patterns!
