What is Group Health Coaching?

It’s a 10-week program to improve health behaviors in Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitudes, Relationships, & Nutrition. The Group Health Coaching program focuses on using self-monitoring, problem solving, and goal setting to promote an overall lifestyle change, including improved eating habits and activity levels.

Who is this program for?

Faculty and Staff

What does it cost?

FREE!  This 10-week program is offered at different locations throughout the United States for over $200!  Here at UMD we are offering it at no cost to all UMD faculty and staff!

What are the requirements?

Register for the program and attend at least 8 out of 10 available meetings.

Is it eligible for Wellness Points Bank?

YES! For UPlan Participants, it’s an easy way to earn up to a possible 200 points for your Wellness Points Bank and greatly improve your lifestyle patterns!

150- for Health Coaching for meeting the 8 out of 10 meeting requirements
50 - for the Step it Up program if you log your steps

When does it start?

Come to the Information Session on 9/24/13 from 12:00-12:30pm in the Garden Room
The Group Health Coaching Program kicks off Monday, 9/30/13 and ends 12/12/13

When are the meetings?

There are three meeting options for meetings starting 9/30/13:

  • Mondays:  12:00pm - 12:30pm – KSC 268
  • Wednesdays: 2:00pm- 2:30pm – KSC 268
  • Thursdays: 11:30am- 12:00pm – KSC 333 (1st session in KSC 268)

Do I have to attend the same session each week?

No, you may attend a different day if needed to make your required meetings. Although we strongly encourage all participants to try their best to make it to the same group meeting each week to build relationships among group members.

What does a typical meeting consist of?

  • Optional Weigh-in
  • Opening and activity
  • Topic Information
  • Goal Setting and Discussion
  • Throughout the program self-monitoring in the form of a journal or log will be encouraged, but not required, to track your own progress.
