UMD Wellness - Spring 2005

Fitness Begins One Step at a Time

Goal: to promote wellness and encourage employees to maintain a healthy living environment.

The campaign challenges UMD faculty and staff to walk or do physical activity totalling 100 miles from February 7 to May 15, 2005, and to log their physical activities. Once the 100-mile challenge has been completed, employees may submit the log form to the Department of Human Resources. Employees that turn-in their log form by May 23, 2005, will receive a free UMD Wellness Walkers t-shirt.

2,000 steps or 15 minute walk or 15 minutes of physical activity = 1 mile

Two thousand steps on the pedometer or 15-minute walk or 15 minutes of physical activity is equivalent to one mile! Examples of physical activities, other than walking, are: aerobics, backpacking, baking, bicycling, calisthenics, canoeing, carpentry, dancing, exercising, gardening, going up and down stairs, jogging, jumping rope, mopping floor, mowing the loan, rowing, sports, running, vacuuming the floor, weight lifting, wood working, etc.

Join the "umdwalkers" listserve and receive wellness e-newsletters.

Purchase of UMD Wellness Walkers t-shirt is funded in part by a grant from the University of Minnesota Office of Risk Management & Insurance (as part of the Safety Awareness program) and a matching grant from University of Minnesota UPlan Wellness.
