UMD Wellness - Spring 2009

Losing Battle Challenge

UMD Wellness Program supports the American Heart Association's "National Start! Walking Day"


Wednesday, April 15, 2009


-Meet in front of the UMD Library (Note: if inclement weather, we will walk indoor)
-Walk to Master Framing Gallery in Kenwood Shopping Center for promoting Heart Health Through Nature Event (see flyer)
-Voyageur Bus provided back to UMD between 5:45 to 7:00 p.m.

50-days to becoming more physically active

Participating is a great way to balance your nutrition, reduce stress, and increase your physical activity. While participating in this program, not only will you increase your health and wellness, you can earn a specialized UMD Cookbook or a UMD imprinted water bottle.


Who is eligible to participate?

UMD faculty and staff are eligible to participate in this program, a sure-fire way to boost your physical and healthy activities.

How do I participate:

Step 1: Sign-up online:

Step 2: To see example of activities, read Sample Activities Calendar.

Step 3: Print the monthly blank calendars to log your continuous 50 days of activities, nutrition or stress reducer tips. Print only the months/pages you need.

Step 4: Mark on your calendar the approach to wellness that works for you with a mixture of:

  • (2) your daily pedometer steps;
  • (2) the number of minutes you did physical activity;
  • (3) specify the physical activity you did; or
  • (4) the nutritious or healthy food that you ate or drank. Feel free to copy activities/tips from the Sample Activities Calendar or the list below.

Step 5: Participate for any 50 continuous days from March 9 to December 31, 2009.

Step 6: Submit completed calendar log by February 3, 2010:
