UMD Department of Human Resources & Equal OpportunityDiversity Funds Special Funds are available for Staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees) and Student Diversity Projects: Effective 2011-2012, we have been allocated $2,000.00 on a recurring basis for diversity initiatives for students and/or student organizations. Also, effective 2011-2012, $3,000.00 has been allocated on a recurring basis for staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees) diversity initiatives. UMD’s Department of Human Resources & Equal Opportunity has developed application guidelines for UMD staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees) and individual students and student organizations seeking a UMD Equity Education and Diversity grant. We have limited funds available to support UMD-centered activities sponsored by UMD staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees) and students or student organizations that focus on diversity, discrimination, social justice, sexual harassment prevention, equal opportunity/affirmative action and inclusivity. Small Grants (up to $300.00) may be awarded to staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees) and individual students or student organizations. Major Grants ($301 and above) may also be awarded to staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees) and individual students or student organizations. UMD staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees) and individual students or student organizations must submit a completed application in accordance with these guidelines to initiate their request. General Guidelines 1. Funds will be awarded as one-time monetary grants to UMD staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees) and students or student organizations for the purpose of promoting diversity, social justice, inclusivity and educating the campus community and the Duluth community as a whole in the areas of discrimination, social justice, sexual harassment prevention, equal opportunity, affirmative action, and inclusivity. Awards will be made based on a proposal submitted by a staff member (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees), individual students or student organizations and his/her/their agreement to disseminate the results of the award to a broad audience. 2. The purpose of these grant programs is to advance Goal 2 of UMD's Strategic Plan at http://www.d.umn.edu/publications/strategicplan/. Please describe how your proposed activity will support Goal 2; we encourage applicants to be as specific as possible. 3. It is the responsibility of the staff person (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees), individual student or student organization requesting funds to prepare the documents necessary for transferring grant monies to the appropriate account and/or making payment to the program participants. Individual students requesting funds must have a sponsoring group, organization, and/or college prepare such documents. Additional details are contained in the grant approval letter. 4. A separate application must be submitted for each activity. 5. A second grant request application cannot be submitted during the same fiscal year for the same activity. However, staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees), individual students or student organizations may apply for additional grants for different activities throughout the year. We will limit, at our discretion, the number of additional grants awarded to a single individual student or student organization. 6. The UMD Equity Education and Diversity Grants Review Committee will consider each grant application and will determine which requests will be funded as well as the amount to be awarded. In some instances, a lesser or greater amount than requested may be awarded. 7. Review of grant applications will begin July 1 of each year and will continue on a rolling basis throughout the academic year as long as funds are available. Grants awarded to staff (Civil Service bargaining and non-bargaining employees), individual students or student organizations in one fiscal year do not guarantee funding in subsequent years. If your request is granted, you will be required to submit a 1-2 page report explaining how the funds assisted you in supporting Goal 2 as outlined in UMD’s Strategic Plan/Campus Goals. The report must be submitted within the fiscal year (July through June) your request is approved. The report should be forwarded to Mary L. Cameron, Chair, UMD Equity Education and Diversity Grants Review Committee, 255 Darland Administration Building, Tel. 726-7912, email at mcameron@d.umn.edu, or click on the following link: Grant Request Application |
