Application for Admission
Applicants are evaluated on an individual basis, with consideration given to the academic record of each student in relation to the educational system of his or her native country. Students applying must show evidence of exceptional academic achievement and probability of success at UMD.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required if English is not your native language.

Applicants who are otherwise admissible but not yet fully proficient may be admitted with one or more language courses required. Minimum scores:
English language courses in writing, reading, and listening/speaking may be taken by students who meet the language proficiency requirement but would like to build language skills before taking the required college writing course.
High School Records/Transcripts
Official high school transcripts with senior year (or equivalent) courses must be submitted.
International Transfer Credit
Applicants must make all appropriate arrangements for providing official English language translations of secondary and post-secondary academic records. Transfer credit evaluations from international colleges and universities will be accepted directly from external credit evaluation services only. Students may not submit credit evaluations on their own behalf. If you have attended college or university outside the U.S., submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutions to one of our preferred evaluation services. If you have already had an external credit evaluation completed by a reviewer other than the following three, that evaluation will be accepted by UMD if it was completed by a service affiliated with NACES.

- AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers)
- ECE (Education Credential Evaluators)
- WES (World Education Services)
Always request a course-by-course evaluation be sent to: UMDREG@d.umn.edu
You may wish to submit your request after final grades are posted to your transcript so that you need only submit your request once.
International transfer students who enroll at UMD will be awarded a $200.00 International Transfer Scholarship to offset the cost of obtaining official documents from external credential reviewers.
