Next Steps

Step 1: Accept your offer of admission and pay the confirmation fee

Accepting your offer of admission and paying your confirmation fee is the next step in becoming a UMD Bulldog. To take this next step, log into the Application Portal and complete the decision reply form to initiate your confirmation process. June 1 is the recommended deadline for confirming your enrollment.

Make sure you have your credit card on hand to pay the non-refundable $150 confirmation fee.

Step 2: Sign up for Orientation, Advisement and Registration (OAR) & complete your checklist

Orientation, Advisement, and Registration (OAR) is a multifaceted experience that takes place prior to starting at UMD. Please log into the Application Portal as your home base for OAR and all your next steps.

Orientation Date Selection becomes available for upcoming semesters in November for spring and in March for fall.

For questions about OAR, you can contact the Bulldog Resource Center at 218-726-6393 or [email protected]

Step 3: Financial Aid

Complete your FAFSA and have the information sent to UMD (Federal School Code: 002388). Starting in late spring, the Office of Financial Aid will begin mailing estimated award notifications to admitted students.

We understand that incoming students and their families will have questions regarding their financial aid. A helpful resource page is available to assist you. If you can't find what you're looking for there, our staff at One Stop Student Services would be delighted to help you. Contact One Stop at [email protected] or call 218-726-8000.

Step 4: Housing

You can apply for housing beginning February 1. Make sure you complete your housing application by June 1. We can't guarantee space after this date.

View our housing options

Head over to our Housing & Residence Life site to explore the different housing options available to you as a student at UMD. The first dropdown on the top of the site will take you to our housing options. You can also take a brief video tour (YouTube) of our housing facilities with a student tour guide.

Step 5: Attend an Admitted Student Day

Gain an in-depth look at campus, connect with faculty and students within your academic department, and learn your next steps for success. To attend, register via your student portal using your email address and password.

Step 6: Official Transcripts

Send your final high school transcript, with the date of graduation to the Office of Admissions by July 1st.

Submit official transcripts for any college courses and/or AP/IB examinations you've taken. This way we can give you credit for work you've done through PSEO, CIS, AP, or IB.

Step 7: Education Modules

To help new students get ready for their first semester in Duluth, UMD requires the completion of three online educational modules. The modules cover a number of important topics, and they help UMD meet a Minnesota state law for incoming college students. Be sure to watch for an email with instructions in late July!

Step 8: Parking at UMD

Are you interested in bringing a car to campus? UMD Transportation & Parking offers a variety of parking options for students. You may find permit option details here. Parking permits for the academic year become available for purchase starting August 1 each year.

Important considerations: Students who have enrolled in courses will see the purchasing options online within approximately 48 hours after course registration. Permits do sell out each year. We strongly encourage students to sign up as soon as possible once they become available August 1.

Step 9: Bulldog Welcome Week

This is your week to explore, discover, and get connected the week before classes begin. Bulldog Welcome Week is required for all new students and is filled with many first-year traditions.
