Fresh and Fun: Market Day in the Plaza
The UMD campus becomes a farmers market every Wednesday afternoon in the summer. From 2 - 4:30 p.m. the UMD Kirby Plaza courtyard, located on Kirby Drive, fills with perennials, hanging plants, annuals, houseplants, blueberry plants, cut flowers, skin and health products, sweet grass, veggies and fruits, and more.
There's nothing more leisurely than listening to music outside, so organizers have put together a series of performers to add to the market experience. The roster includes: Jimi Cooper (see photo) and Hattie Peterson on August 9, Dan Burrows on August 16, Chad Salmela on August 30, and Sterling Waters on September 6.
For a sneak preview of the week's offerings, visitors can check in with KUMD-FM radio every Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m.
While they last, Duluth grape plants will be available at Deb Shubat's booth for $10 each as a fundraiser for Sustainable Farming Association. In addition to the music and the fresh grown produce, sales are offered by UMD Stores on items such as fountain soft drinks, UMD wear and books.
For more information see the website or contact Teri Glembin at (218) 726-6507 or email@example.com. UMD Market Day in the Plaza is sponsored by Farmer's Market, UMD Auxiliary Services, UMD Stores, and Plaza Food Court.
