STAGE ACTS
Lake Superior Trivia Quiz:
Friday, Aug 24, 11 AM-Noon and 2-3 PM
Learn about Lake Superior with Andrew Slade, as he tests the audience
about the lake’s history of shipping, storms, lighthouses, geology
and more. Slade runs the North Shore Interpretive Center at the historic
Limnology Lab building at on the Lester River, (6008 London Rd). The purpose
of the North Shore Center is to educate people about how to protect the
North Shore watershed and to inform the public about UMD programs: Minnesota
Sea Grant, the Large Lakes Observatory, The Weber Stream Restoration Project
and others. Slade is also director of the Sugarloaf
Cove Interpretive Association.
Coffee Art with Angel & Andy:
Friday, Aug 24, Noon-2 PM
UMD alumni Andrew Saur (graphic design) and Angel Sarkela-Saur (marketing)
paint with coffee. In fact, their coffee art has been featured on the
Food Network. Their lively presentation includes finished works of art
on display and they will actually paint with coffee at the fair. Their
adventure with coffee art started when they planned their first art show
in a Duluth coffee house and it has continued as one of their many interests
since then. Both Angel and Andy draw and paint. Andy also creates wood
carvings, and Angel is an accomplished photographer. See their website
and movie.
Singer Songwriter Jerree Small:
Saturday, Aug 25, Noon-2 PM
Recently featured on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, Jerree
Small is emerging as one of Minnesota’s hotest talents. This UMD
student has two CD releases, Mobius, and Sleeping Giant. Her songs create
musical snapshots of life experiences. Reviewers say her early influences,
fellow Duluth native Bob Dylan and Iowa-based Greg Brown, resonate throughout
her "blend of Midwestern steadiness and the wistful voice of a world
traveler". See her website and
a clip of her performing “To
Ramona.”
