Grabbing Reader's Attention
Join veteran communicators Cheryl Reitan (UMD University Relations) and Martha Coventry (UM University Relations) at 2 pm on Thurs., Nov. 6 in the Library Fourth Floor Rotunda as they tackle the question of how to stop a reader on a page. Their talk, "Interest at First Glance: Grabbing (and Keeping) Your Reader's Attention in Print and Online" presents tips on how to keep readers from hitting delete or using the circular file before even giving the content a chance. Topics include audience consideration, engaging writing, eye-catching headlines, compelling graphics, new media and clutter control. The presenters will discuss the University of Minnesota's new home page design and alumni publication, as well as the results from several readability studies.
