UMD Hosts DemandTec Retail Challenge
|High School students compete for scholarship funds in retail marketing event.
On November 17, the top three local high school teams in the DemandTec Retail Challenge competition will arrive at UMD to present their pricing and promotional strategies to a panel of judges from maurices and DemandTec.
The judges then determine the winning team for this region. This team goes on to represent the region in the semi-finals and hopefully earns a place in the championship round which is held in New York City in January.
The three teams for this region represent four high schools and each team consists of two high school seniors:
Choir of Zanes is from Harbor City International
Laulhati is a cross school team from Hermantown and East
Erina Loves Coff is from Marshall.
The judging will start at 4 pm on November 17, in LSBE Room 310/320. The awards ceremony will start at approximately 5:45 pm in Room 119 in LSBE.
The first place team wins a $5,000 scholarship from maurices. Second and Third place teams will also receive monetary prizes.

About Retail Challenge
The DemandTec Retail Challenge originated in 2005 as a local competition in the San Francisco Bay Area and has expanded to many regions nationally. Its goal is to present math, science and business concepts creatively through an online simulation giving students a taste of how retailers and consumer products manufacturers make pricing and inventory decisions.
The top five Grand Championship teams are funded to travel to New York City and participate in the Grand Championship round at NASDAQ, again analyzing a typical retail problem and presenting their findings to a panel of judges representing the field of Retail and Consumer Products analytics.
