Get Your News Out

We are always on the lookout for stories that showcase UMD. Submit your story idea.

We promote stories based on newsworthiness, timeliness, and the mission priorities of UMD. We are especially interested in stories that highlight the student experience, emphasize research and learning, create an emotional reaction, and tell people what makes UMD unique and vibrant.

Your website manager can also upload a story to your website, which we can share on UMD’s News Website.

UMD faculty, staff, and units are invited to post events that are open to the public on the UMD Events Calendar.

The media is in search of stories that are impactful, interesting, visual, and even unusual. We can help you determine how to frame, pitch, and deliver your story to the media.

How We Share Your News

Once we receive your story idea, there are a number of ways we might share your info with a wider audience:

  • We write stories, news releases, and short announcements and share those via email and on UMD’s News Site, Twitter feed, and Facebook page.

  • We write and repurpose articles that appear on the UMD homepage, MyU Portal, and U of M Brief.

  • We share articles with the UMD colleges and schools for their homepages and with Alumni Relations for their electronic newsletter.

  • When applicable, we will also share your news with the U of M Twin Cities campus and the various sites and publications that they put out, including Legacy (which focuses on development) and Inquiry (which highlights U of M research).
  • When applicable, we can set up news conferences, prepare media kits, and coordinate interviews with key stakeholders and content experts.

UMD units, faculty, and staff are invited to post events that are open to the public on the UMD Events Calendar.
