Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

UMD Undergraduate Research/Artistic Showcase

UMD takes great pride in the accomplishments of its undergraduates. Often these efforts are part of our Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP). However in addition to this formal program, numerous undergraduates pursue independent studies on their own. Almost two decades ago, UMD started a spring showcase so as to afford our undergraduates an opportunity to present, in a public venue, these achievements.

New this year, there will be two Showcases, Thursday December 4, 2014 and Tuesday April 21, 2015. The program, which starts at 11 am and will continue until 3 pm, will feature both verbal and poster presentations.

All undergraduates from any Universit of Minnesota campus are encouraged to participate; students do not need to have participated in a UROP project in order to present at the showcase.  However, students who have received UROP funding are expected to participate.  No abstract is needed

Oral Presentation:
Students may give a 20-minute oral presentation, which begin at 11:20, with the last presentation beginning at 2:40.  Students presenting power point presentations must use the computer in the assigned room and download their presentation between 8 - 11:00 on the date of the presentation.

Poster Presentation:
Students may create a poster displaying their project to be presented in the ballroom; posters should be approximately 3' x 4'.  Students are asked to attend their poster when not in class; no student is expected or required to miss class to attend the showcase.  Poster participants will be assigned a poster board space approximately 4 feet wide; the boards will be available between 8 - 11 on the date of the showcase and all poster displays must be set up before 11:00 AM; posters can be taken down at 3:00.  The GIS lab and Printing Services print professional posters appropriate for the showcase, they request at least 5 working days and charge approximately $43; please contact the GIS lab in 326 Cina or email them at gisl@d.umn.edu or Printing Services in 125 KPlz or email them at print@d.umn.edu for more information.  For those who do not have expense funds, please fill out the form found at:  http://www.d.umn.edu/urop/ under Student Presentation Funding Request.

Guidelines for creating a professional poster.

Space is limited, the deadline, pending space availability, is Friday April 3, 2015 for the spring showcase.  Requests received after the deadline date will be accepted if space is available; but students may not receive a t-shirt.
