Student Learning and Assessment Mini-Conference

The Council for Advancement of Student Learning sponsored a mini-conference as a kickoff event for 2009-2010.  Presentation materials are included here for future reference.

CASL presentation -- an overview of transformative assessment, UMD’s proposed learning goals and outcomes, the timeline for implementation of a campus assessment system, and related tools and resources.  (Powerpoint)

ePortfolio Pilots -- descriptions and examples from two departments’ design processes, current uses and future plans.

Indirect Measures of Learning -- an introduction to two existing sources for indirect measures, the National Survey of Student Engagement and the UM Student Experience Survey, and how these data sources can be used within your program assessment plan.  (Mary Keenan)

Initiating an Assessment Plan - guides participants through a clear process to write program level student learning outcomes and to map those outcomes to UMD’s leaning goals and outcomes.   (Sue Darge, Julie Westlund)

A funny thing happened on the way to the assessment - Geoff Bell, Management Studies, shares how the process of rebuilding MBA 8411 Business Policy & Strategy around assessment (instead of tagging it on) changed the entire nature of the course.

Spur Your Assessment Enthusiasm - Brandy Hoffmann, Writing Studies, shares what she learned using an assessment grant.
