American Indian Learning Resource Center Program Outcomes
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the American Indian Learning Resource Center is to enhance and enrich the cultural, academic, supportive and retention of American Indian and Alaskan Native (AI/AN) students while promoting new and improved ideas, which contribute to cultural diversity. The Center works toward developing a strong commitment to develop and build self-reliance and self-esteem, which leads to empowerment of our students to meet their goal of becoming contributing citizens.
STUDENT OUTCOMES
Students will be able to analyze services through application of thinking skills. Promoted through
Maintaining communication through AILRC-STUDENT-LIST

Hosting workshops

Collaborating with other community American Indian programs hosting additional events

Tutoring services
- Hiring work-study students to tutor AI/AN students upon reques
- Hiring miscellaneous tutors for specialized courses not covered by work-study students
- Housing mini-computer lab
- Enhancing student retention through small lab computer availability
- Working with ITSS for ongoing maintenance of mini-lab
- Offering both PC’s and Mac for student usage
Students will be able to access resources throughout their lives. Promoted through:
Tracking students records
- Evaluating student records at end of every semester
- Sending letters of encouragement for a job well done
- Sending letters of invite to meet with AILRC staff for those students whose GPA’s are lower than 2.0
- Signing an Individual Contract for Academic Performance to work with the students on a weekly basis
- Working with students in academic difficulty through goal setting, study habits, listening skills, time management and success suggestions
- Working as a mini-student affairs office, the Center maintains a walk-in presence
- Listing the AILRC staff as second advisors of record for the AI/AN students
Students will be able to understand their own values and identity. Promoted through:
Maintaining the AILRC website via links to community events for students such as pow-wows, speakers, workshops and resources

Developing an increased cultural awareness for both the students and the community alike through speakers, workshops and resources

Continuing to update the AILRC Resource Library
- Currently AILRC houses the second largest American Indian focused library in the upper Midwest area.
- Cataloging all books, pamphlets, videos through the UMD library system.
- Making all resources available to all students, staff, faculty and community members
- Checking resource materials out for use away from the Center, if needed
