Requirements
Lower-Division Requirement: Writ 1120—College Writing (3 credits) or its equivalent must be completed during the first two semesters of attendance at UMD as part of the UMD liberal education program or Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.
For information on receiving credit for Writ 1120 through the Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or ACT examinations, please refer to the Office of Admissions.
Examination for Credit—No examinations for credit are offered by the Writing Studies Department.
Upper-Division Requirement: UMD also requires all students to take one upper-division writing course. This requirement is clarified under each program's description, which can be found in the current course catalog. Upper-division courses are offered in writing for business and organizations, language and literature, arts and letters, human services, social science, engineering, science, and document design and graphics. Students are required to complete these specialized courses during their junior or senior year.
