Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 lb. unsalted butter
2 C. dark brown sugar
1¼ to 1½ C. white sugar
3 eggs
1½ tsp. salt
1½ tsp. soda
6 C. flour
24 oz. chocolate chips
2 C. nuts
3 T. vanilla

Mix ingredients together. Using an ice cream scoop put dough on waxed paper on cookie sheets; press down. Bake for 10 minutes (or a bit more) in a 350º oven. They will not look done. Cool 5 minutes on sheet before removing. (Do one test cookie first.) (These are the directions given to me, but I feel it takes longer than 5 minutes.)
