Southern Style Round Steak

2 1/2 pounds round steak
3 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 yams
3 onions
1 stick cinnamon
1/2 cup water
2 apples
2 tablespoons flour

Cut round steak into 6 serving size pieces. Combine 3 tablespoons of flour 1 teaspoon . of salt and pepper; dredge meat and brown in cooking oil or fat in large frying pan. Pare yams; halve onions.

Add onions, yams, cinnamon stick and 1/2 cup of water. Cover tightly and bake in a slow oven at 325° for 1½ hours. Remove onions and cinnamon stick. A dd apples cover and bake 15 to 20 minutes. Add water to cooking liquid to make 1½ cups. Blend 2 tablespoons flour with 1/2 cup additional water. Add to cooking liquid. Cook, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt.
