Angie's Light Battered Onion Rings

4    jumbo onions
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup flour
1    teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup water
1    egg, slightly beaten

Cut onions into 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices. Mix ingredients into
batter mixture. Dip rings into batter and coat rings well. Deep fry until golden brown.
