Smothered Herbed Potatoes

4 large potatoes, scrubbed and cut in 1" cubes
1 large onion, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons margarine
1/2 cup water

Layer 1/3 of potatoes in heavy saucepan. Sprinkle with 1/3 of salt pepper thyme and onion. Repeat layers twice and top with paprika. Dot with margarine. Add water. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Simmer 40 minutes until tender. seasoning.
