Charles Gary Holzer


Charles Gary Holzer attended Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa, in 1953-54. He entered the United States Air Force in January 1955 where he served until his discharge in October 1958. Entering UMD that fall, he lost no time in becoming active in many campus organizations.

He served as Commissioner of National and International Affairs and Commissioner of Rules and Elections. Gary was also elected to the position of President of the International Club. For his outstanding accomplishments he received the Arrowhead Award in 1960. Gary received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.

Gary died at age 63 on Tuesday, June 15, 1999, in his residence. Born January 19, 1936, in Minneapolis to Jack and Mabel Denny, he was adopted by Charles A. and Gladys R. Denny Holzer. He married Teresa Watkins in 1967. She survives in San Jose, Calif. He was an Air Force veteran and worked as a claims consultant for Metropolitan Life in Peoria, Illinois. He had also been a reserve officer for Broken Arrow Police Department in Oklahoma. He helped found Alpha Nu Omega fraternity at University of Minnesota-Duluth.

He was preceded in death by a brother. He is survived by a son, Jeffrey of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Sharilyn Holzer of Peoria; brothers Bob Denny and George Setchel; and sisters Gail Holzer Jantz, Joanne Starmack, Louise Molencamp and Marian Barron.
