"... and the light of Brotherhood shall burn throughout Eternity."

Dr. Peter McKenna of Essex Junction died suddenly at his residence.

He was born Nov. 4, 1947 in Duluth. He received his BA from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and his medical degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, where he also completed his psychiatric residency. Dr. McKenna enjoyed many hobbies including scuba diving, sailing, and woodworking. He found great peace and adventure both on and under the waters of Lake Champlain.

From 1977 to 1984 Dr. McKenna served as the director of Air Force mental health clinics in Maine, Mississippi, and Germany, and for many years was the Commander of the Air National Guard Clinic in Burlington. He served as the Medical Director for Howard Center for Human Services until 2003, when he returned to private psychiatric practice. He also served other Vermont residents through his work at Northeast Kingdom Mental Health in Newport, VT. He cared very deeply about his patients, and was dedicated to improving the quality of their lives. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and sons, Aaron and Matt. Dr. McKenna is also survived by D. Michael McKenna and family, Thomas McKenna and family, and Dale and Beverly Nordwall as well as many loving friends. He will be terribly missed by those who loved him and those whose lives he touched so deeply.
