SUPPLEMENTARY INSTRUCTIONS

To apply for admission, the following items must be submitted to:

1. Completed application form.
2. Official college transcripts and degree statements.
3. TOEFL Scores for English proficiency if English is not your first language. An official report of your scores must be sent from TOEFL/TSE Services.
4. Application fee. (This must be submitted before your application will be considered. Only one fee payment is required, regardless of which campus you apply to.)

In addition, you must also send the following items to:

1. A photocopy of your completed Graduate School application, including a statement of goals.
2. A completed application for Graduate Assistantship or Graduate School Fellowship if you want to apply for financial aid. (These are available from Dr. Drewes at the address above.) This applies to Ph.D. students only.
3. Graduate Record Exam general test scores. (A Subject Test in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or Biology is also desirable, but not required.) A photocopy of scores is acceptable.
4. Photocopy of TOEFL scores for English proficiency if English is not your first language.
5. Three letters of recommendation.

Completed applications for entry in September of the year should be received by January 15 of the same year. Applications received after that date will be considered if positions and funding are available.

Please note the graduate study in Biochemistry may also be completed through the Department of Chemistry at UMD. The coursework and thesis research leading to the M.S. degree in Chemistry with a Biochemistry emphasis are essentially the same as for the Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics Graduate Program.
