Madeline Sobota explains : ''....participating in both the Design Expo and PQ were wonderfully exciting and rewarding experiences."

''My artistry and imagination have been challenged and stimulated, I've met and exchanged ideas with new colleagues from the states and around the world, and IÕve returned to Butler with lots of ideas and visual research to share with my students and colleagues, as we strive to move forward with work that is more innovative and cutting edge''

Madeline is an assistant professor and scenic and lighting designer at Butler University. Her freelance credits include designs for Otterbein Summer Theatre, Columbus Light Opera, La Mirada, and the Contemporary American Theatre, along with a number of colleges and universities.

Tony Andrea

Another designer, Tony Andrea, whose road to Prague has been very short in comparison to other Design Expo winners, also took the opportunity to travel to PQ this summer. He reflected about his PQ experience, "I get to see real art work, not from a book! The experience of coming here and seeing the work from all these other countries is wonderful.'' While attending the University of Connecticut Tony wanted to be an actor. He had no aspiration of becoming a designer but was offered on two different occasions positions in the design area. He went back to school in '95 and completed his MFA in '98. His MFA scenic design project was for The Miser which he entered in Design Expo Ō98. His design for The Miser has also been recognized with the Connecticut Critics Circle Award. Every observer takes from the PQ a unique experience, some may include personal reflections as we saw in Tony, while others maybe inspired with new incentives.
