Th 4399 Theatre: Special Projects / Scenic Designers

Design and supervision of selected project in costume, lighting, scenery, or sound for public theatre performance.
Objective: To gain practical knowledge in scenic design by designing for a fully realized production.

Expectations: The scenic designer must meet with the design team of the production for seven weekly conferences. The scenic designer must meet all design presentation goals and objectives agreed upon with the faculty advisor and the director. Refer to the Production Schedule for Scenic Designers.

The scenic designer must meet with the design team for an additional six weekly production meetings to update the design team on the progress of the execution of the design. The scenic designer must provide all technical information agreed upon with their advisor, and shop supervisor if appropriate, in order to allow their respective shops to execute the design in a timely fashion.

Evaluation: After the production opens, the scenic designer will submit a written self-evaluation to the advisor. The faculty advisor will assign a letter grade for the design based upon the established merits of artistry, and timeliness of execution..
Individuals who have any disability, either permanent or temporary, which might affect their ability to perform in this class are encouraged to inform the instructor at the start of the semester. Adaption of methods, materials, or testing may be made as required to provide for equitable participation.
  This production maybe a full or associate entry in the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival. You may have the opportunity to enter your design in the Regional/National Barbizon Design Competition. Your design will appear with other designers work at the Region V ACTF Festival Design Exhibition.
