The Glass Menagerie was toured by the UMD Theatre throughout Hungary following its performances in the Dudley Experiemental Theatre. UMD Theatre was invited to Hungary by the Cultural Attache for the Hungarian Embassy, Mr. Bela Szombati, in 1989 as a result of its repeated national success in the American College Theatre Festival in Washington D.C. The ground work for the tour was established by Dean Richard Durst in September of 1990, and an official cultural invitation was presented by Mr. Gyorgy Lengyel, Chairman of the Hungarian International Theatre Institute in April of 1991. Since that time, students, faculty, and administrators at UMD and throughout Hungary have contributed countless hours to make this goodwill international theatre tour a reality.
The UMD Theatre toured Budapest, Debrecen, Nyiregyhaza, Pecs, and Eger, Hungary.
