Barbara Z. Johnson

Gwyneira from Gaia OnlineI wear many hats and enjoy many hobbies and activities.

Predominately, I am a graduate student (Ed.D.) in the Education Department at the University of Minnesota -Duluth where I also have the honor of serving as a Teaching Assistant. With over 20 years of experience in software development and systems implementation, I am interested in development of software to support teaching and in teaching people, particularly faculty members, to use software to support their work. In particular, I research the use of video games and virtual worlds in both formal and informal educational settings with an eye toward improving both tools and pedagogy.

Currently, I work with the Tech Savvy Girls project, which spans several college campuses and will - hopefully - open a branch site here in Duluth, Minnesota soon.

As a researcher involved in video games and virtual worlds, I have many names and many avatars. See if you recognize any of them as you navigate this site!
