Course Objectives:

Grading: Grades will be based on three exams, in-class group assignments, and a series of thought papers on optional readings, as follows:

 Exam One 100 points
Exam Two 100 points
Exam Three 100 points
Group and individual assignments 100 points

In addition, to qualify for an "A" you must complete four satisfactory thought papers; to qualify for a "B," you must complete two satisfactory thought papers. Thought papers are due on the day for which an optional reading is assigned.

Thought Papers: The internet schedule for this course includes a wide variety of optional readings. Thought papers should be 1-2 pages, typed, double-spaced, and should include a summary of basic arguments from the article, along with your critical reflections.

Videos: We will make frequent use of videos, often as a basis for group assignments. Worksheets will be distributed at the time of showing, and these worksheets must be attached to the eventual group report, in order to get full credit. Many of the videos are an hour long. Sometimes videos will begin five minutes early; other times they may be shown across parts of two class periods. In those instances, worksheets will be distributed only on the first day.
