Chicago Updates 5/15/09
1. I've got your group assignments below, and I want you to get in groups when you arrive at the station. I'm going to take photos to help me learn names.
2. Bring student id card and drivers license or state id card.
3. Check the reminder sheet that I distributed.
4. Panhandlers. I forgot to mention this at the meetings. Given the economic hard times, there will probably be lots of panhandlers. If you think you're going to want to give money to any of them, bring some single one dollar bills and keep them separate from your billfold.
5. Good news: the Art Institute of Chicago (111 S. Michigan Avenue) is opening a new wing on Modern Art and to celebrate, admissions are free all week. This is one of the best (and most varied) museums in the world.
6. The Twins are playing the White Sox Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; the cheapest tickets (way up high) are around $20, and I wouldn't suggest it unless we have a warm evening.
7. I may try to go the "Rock ' n Roll," a Tom Stoddard play at the Goodman Theater(170 N Dearborn) on Wednesday or Thursday. It's just opening, so this may not be possible, but we might be able to get $10 student tickets online after 10 a.m. the day of the play if any of you are interested.
8. For those of you who like late nights, I came across a review of Buddy Guy's Jazz Legends (754 S, Wabash), a club near our hostel, that says they usually waive the cover charge (high) after midnight; the club stays open till 2 a.m.
9. A couple of time changes--sorry! Both Monday and Tuesday we need to leave at 8.30 a.m. instead of at 9.00. Breakfast at the hostel, by the way, starts at 7 a.m.
10. Finally, here are your group assignments:
Group A. Erin, Asha , Paul, Codie
Group B: Bill, Dena , Jessica, Sarah, Nate
Group C : Tyler, Stefanie B, Stephanie T, Jared
Group D: Seth, Gregg, Niki , Christina, Hannah
