The Weekend and Interesting News
I went to a Wild game yesterday. My friend Kevin's girlfriend was nice enough to by tickets for him as a gift so he could take us all.Unfortunately she didn't get to come because she got sick, so anther friend came. It was a good game, The Wild won in overtime 3 to 2. Kevin missed most of the game, but... I guess he can deal with it.
I was offered a job a couple of weeks ago, it's a decent offer, but I'm passing on this one. I went and spoke with the career center at school and we came to the decision that it would be better to wait. My first concern wasn't that it didn't seem like an okay company, but I found them at the job fair, they interviewed me for less than 15 minuets and offered me a job... which was nice, but I haven't had the chance to look for a job I actually want.
Also, when I spoke with the career center, we determined that the position was temporary. Although there may have been a chance they kept me around, the offer very clearly stated at the bottom (where I was supposed to sign) that I was agreeing to "temporary full-time employment". This seemed to make sense because it a fairly small company and they were hiring a number of people. The advice the career center gave me at first was to take it and consider it as a summer internship and gain some experience, but then I brought up the fact that this company uses it's own proprietary programing language that no one else would care about when looking for
another job, and in light of the fact that I recently wasn't hired (just barely) because I hadn't used a specific language enough, we decided it would be better to look for something different.
They told me at the career center that the job market for this type of job
is so good right now that it's okay to pass on this one. And the fact that I already have a job through the summer if I need it that would be better experience anyway, just makes it easier to look for something else. I've got a good number of
options to look at, so I'm not too worried.
