At Last
At last I've had a week that's worth writing about, whether or not it's good. Last week we got a bunch of snow in Duluth. Saturday the first, we got about ten inches and the more on Tuesday. The part of town in the harbor got lake-effect snow, so the city got drastically different amounts of snow. About 10 miles away, where my boss lives on the shore, they got about an inch. Here, we got closer to like 17 inches. Thankfully, my Jeep still made it up the hill when there was about 12-15 inches on our road.
As soon as we got all the snow our furnace decided to quit, which was "loads of fun". As it got down to the low 50s in our house, we ended up having to wait in the cold until midnight for someone to come look at it. It turns out that the air intake is too close to the exhaust, so it was sucking in moist air and freezing. That's thankfully fixed, or at least "working" as the guy just unhooked something that should actually be attached.
Even better, our mail hasn't been delivered in the last week... We have two staircases going up to our house. One has stairs that are about half as deep as they should be, making it hard to use them. Neither staircase has a railing. Naturally we shoveled the staircase that we use, the safer one... Well it turns out the mail carrier wants to use the other staircase... and even though there's a perfectly good set of stairs on the other side.... and he has to go up that way anyway... he couldn't even leave a note saying why he wasn't delivering it, like they're supposed to. Well, after my roommates jumped through some hoops, a supervisor is going to drive out tomorrow and look at our stairs. So hopefully she sees how retarded it is to make us shovel both staircases.
This past weekend my sister and brother-in-law came up to visit. We went out a couple of time and they went to my band concert on Sunday. So that was pretty fun. Yesterday I got the new Harry Potter movie on Blu-ray. The picture is awesome, its really worth having over the DVD. I'm supposed to get the first four movies on Blu-ray for Christmas. My friend's wife got her little Yaris stuck in the snow, so we went to try and pull it out with some help from the Jeep, but it turned out that the truck downhill from her had left, so he was able to just drive it out. We went out to Old Chicago for happy hour after that and then back to my place to watch the movie. I managed to get into the courses I wanted for next semester. I'm going to play in the band again and I'm taking an art course, 2-D Digital Design. It should be kind of fun. If I stick around long enough I might consider doing the Master of Fine Arts in graphic design, or some other graduate program, we'll see.
Other than that, not much is new. I have to get all my Christmas shopping done, it's hard to believe that less than two weeks away...
