Weekend - Fun, Week - Not So Fun.

Well, it's 11:00 in the morning, and I'm sitting here at work by myself. I knew two of the three would be gone, but the third must have decided not to come in. So I could really do whatever I want, which would be nice if I had anything to do, but I don't so I'm just sitting here bored. I really kind of feel having like a beer right now... Anyway, I went to a friend's this weekend which was fun and a nice break from everything else. Things would have been better if I hadn't hurt myself, but it was alright, I felt better after about an hour and still had fun. As much as I love Duluth, it feels more and more like it's just not worth living so far away from the rest of the world, but we'll see, for now I just need to finish school. We also finished my room last week, so I can actually use it now. Not too much else to say, right now anyway...

Just a Small Update...

Not too much exciting has happened this week. Moving is going okay, almost all of our stuff is out of the old house. My room is almost finished. It was some pale shade of pink with blue trim... but now it's "canary" green with white trim and looks a million times better, which is an understatement. I should have before and after pictures later (yes, I'll still post pictures of the house later). My friend Kevin moved back today (or at least to Cloquet...) which is really nice because now I'll have someone to do stuff with. We went to Old Chicago (surprise!) tonight to... celebrate, I guess. This weekend a friend is having a party, so I'll be going to that. The next weekend we're having our own party here. I talked to Bob from the grounds crew today and he said he wouldn't be able to make it because he'd be wallowing in his own self-pity, which if you know Bob, it's not really anything new, almost humorous. There's at least one person that I'd like to show up, but probably won't, which will be disappointing, but at least all my friends will come (or would if they could, like Jake and Holly).

A Pep Band Wedding

Well, it's certainly been a busy weekend. Thursday night, Becky's parents were in town becuse she and her sisters had bought her dad a half day on a chartered fishing boat on Lake Superior. That night we went tom Old Chicago for dinner and Becky's parent's paid for Becky, Ryan and my dinner, which was nice of them. Her parents apparently though Old Chicago was okay... buy really prefered The Anchor, which is a whole in the wall bar in Superior, WI. I did 't do to The Anchor however, whether that's unfortunarte or not, because I left for my parent's house after dinner. The drive home was interesting because I was pretty tired and it rained a little bit, which was worse because my windshield was so dirty. So I stopped to clean the window and drank an enery drink and was better after that.

Friday I got up and got to work from home for part of the day, which I have to say is awsome (don't you wish you could work from home?). I also got Chipotle for lunch (a requirement evet time I go home). I met Ryan and Becky in Forest Lake so I wouldn't have to drive after the reception and we got down to Eden Prarie at almost the perfect time for the wedding. The wedding itself was okay (can 't say I'm really fond of them), but if I had to say anything, I'd have to say the priest was interesting... kind iof pushy... Anyway, the dinner was nice, and the party was fun. it was fun to see all my old friends and I got my fair share of beer. Afterwords, our friends Matt and Molly let Dust, Elizabeth and me sleep at their place (which they needed a ride anyway) and in the morning Matt made us waffels. I could definatlty have been feeling that morning. After breakfast, Dusty, Eizabeth and I went back to my parent's for the rest of the weekend to vist with my mom. Tonigh we're going to paint my room, yay!

A Nice Change of Scenery

Today I met Bob for lunch. Bob is one of the full-time staff members of the grounds crew. It was nice to catch up and get to visit with someone different for a change. I like Bob, we get along well. This evening I went to the bar with the guys from work. We went to The Runway bar in Hermantown. The reason for going there was it was $1 for a conny dog, $1 for fries, and like three something for a pitcher. The bar was pretty nice, it's recently been renovated. After a while, all the bikers showed up, which was interesting, but the bar still wasn't crowded. There were guys there with big cameras and lights for quite a while, so I don't know, we'll see, maybe we'll end up in a commercial. Afterwards, we went to one of the guys' house to hang out for a while. I have to say, he lives in one of the nicest houses I've ever seen, rental or not. It was one of those giant old houses that you would expect someone to rent out to college students, but only it was completely renovated, probably within the last couple of years. It wasn't a crappy job like you'd expect in a rental place either, this was really nice. Anyway, it was nice to hang out with some other people for a change. Everyone else I see, I or they, have to travel long distance to hang out. Apparently I don't have any friends left in Duluth (other than my room mates, the good ones... and Mike), they've all moved away or don't care, but it will be okay. Some of them are moving back soon, and I visit all the other ones quite frequently.

Getting Moved

Well, moving has gone fairly well thus far. Ryan was able to borough his dad's truck for the week, so we've been able to get quite a bit moved. We're hoping to get all of our bigger stuff (i.e. furniture) moved by tomorrow night because Becky's parents are coming into town on Thursday, and then we're going down for our friend Rob's wedding on Friday (I'm actually going down Thursday night to my parents). We've gotten enough moved to "live" here, so we'll be sleeping, showering and what not here from now on. We even had the cable installed today, so I'm actually able to write this at the new place as well.

This should make our room mate happy, although not nearly as happy as we are to get out of there. Apparently, after neglecting it all summer long, she has decided to do yard work such as cutting the weeds next to the house, trimming the hydrangea in front and weeding her mangy garden in the back. She even went out and bought more mulch. We decided she must think that she'll be able to enjoy it with us gone. Which is ridiculous being as she's moving out at the end of the month as well, and it's not like we're going to just disappear. We'll still have stuff left to move next week, and then we'll need to clean. How she's going to enjoy that house when all she has is a bed and a crappy futon is kind of beyond me. I feel like cutting all the flowers off the stems of all the plants, but I guess I'll be nice and let it be.

The Bachelor and More

I headed down to Pine Island to stay with Elizabeth and Dusty on Friday. We basically hung out on Friday night. Saturday was Rob's bachelor party. We met at the bowling alley at 2:00. I was trying to confirm where the name of the alley for another friend on the phone while at the same time giving Dusty directions and him complaining about us getting lost even though we were going the right way. Of course Dusty succeeded in irritating me (which of course was his intent), but we got there very shortly after this, which was a good thing.

Bowling was interesting. I have issues with holding on to things, and was surprised to see how much of a difference one pound made. I still didn't do very well, but at least I could keep a grip on the ball after that. It was okay though, as I don't think anyone did very well. If I remember correctly, Rob, the one who bowls 300, was somewhere around 150. Afterwards we went to Old Chicago because it was across the street and none of us had eaten lunch. Dusty ordered Summit, which I warned him not to, and he knew better but did it anyway and complained about it afterwards. He tried to order Rob a bad tasting beer, but they didn't have what he was thinking of (it's called Kingfisher, don't ever order it...) and the beer the waitress suggested apparently turned out to be okay... so Dusty had more luck buying bad beer for himself.

After lunch we headed to the Twins game. Yes... I went to a baseball game, and yes... it was as boring as ever. Then we headed out to the bar. It was a really cool bar in Uptown Minneapolis, and the best part of it was that they served beer in liter sized glasses. So, it was pretty fun.

On Sunday, Elizabeth, Dusty and I went around looking at stuff in Rochester and then went and saw Talladega Night, which was okay, not the best, but funny. It was nice to see a movie since I've only gone to two the whole summer, one of which I had to force myself to go to by myself. That night, Elizabeth made dinner, some kind of fish, and I ate it... I can't believe I went to a baseball game and ate fish in the same weekend, eeck! It was pretty good though and I didn't terribly hate it. Anyway, we're gonna start moving stuff to the new house tonight, so hopefully that goes smoothly.

The End of My Pains, at Least One of Them...

We put the deposit down on the West Duluth house today, and we could start moving in tomorrow if we wanted to (I even have a key). It feels really good to know that we'll have a place, and I'd really rather be spending my time doing other things rather than looking for a house. Anyway, I'll put a couple of pictures up later. I'll be out of town this weekend for my friend Rob's bachelor party, so definatly no moving quite yet.

A Very Interesting Change of Events

Ryan and I went to Old Chicago tonight, that's not really news I guess... I was supposed to go out with the guys from work tonight for cheap beer and Coney dogs, but they put it off until next week when we get paid... anyway. We found a really nice place to rent, and it's really nice and HUGE, but... he wants first and last month's rent plus a deposit... Well Becky and Ryan, my roommates, don't have that kind of money to just throw out there, so we saw a couple of places tonight that we okay... and... well... I'm just really frustrated right now because we don't have much time left and we really haven't seen anywhere else that really fits... The places we saw tonight were... okay, so we'll see...

Anyway, in my frustration I called my old landlord. I was actually really lucky to even get ahold of him because he's moving and has his phone set up to be disconnected. So I asked him if he had any rental places left, and I'm pretty sure I'm pretty lucky because he's trying to sell all his places (I think there's only two...) because he's moving out of town. I really don't think he would rent to anyone else, but since the housing market in Duluth has been so slow, and he likes me so much (cause I'm such a wonderful person) he showed us the places and is willing to rent to us.

One of the places was REALLY nice, and in a good place, close to school. It even had air conditioning! But, as nice as a place as it was, the other place is a STEAL! Okay, so the down side is it's in "West" Duluth., but really it's barely, and it's actually in kind of a secluded, private area, it's actually the house he's been living in. There's a "designated" park nearby that no one apparently uses because it's not really developed. It has a really nice private yard, and a HUGE garage that would fit both my four-wheelers and two cars, and has an electric opener. The house is a good size, has a separate dining room and an eat-in kitchen that's really nice and has a dishwasher. The bathroom is really nice and there's laundry. The front side of the house has an awesome lake view. To top it off, it's one of the cheapest places we've looked at and it has a high efficiency heater that the landlord says makes it the cheapest house he's ever lived in. And the best part is I know he's a great landlord! So, I think we've pretty much made up our minds (even though none of us have said it exactly, I know we're all thinking it) and should hopefully have it all worked out by the end of the week. It feels really good and I think we're all really excited.

Cheeseland

This weekend we went to Wisconsin to visit or freinds Jake and Holly. We got there Friday night and stayed up for a while talking and played a game (A little sick of the trivia games because there's too much debate about the answers which makes it less fun. Back at home Trivial Pursuit is almost banned because of that). Saturday we went and toured the Steven's Point Brewery. It was fairly intering, but definatly worth the two dollars it cost, especially since there was the hospitality room where we got to try the beer. Afterwords we when to the Hilltop Pub and Grill in Steven's Point for lunch, which had really good food. I figured since it was a "beer" day I'd make it just that. I had the Steven's Point Brewery Special Ale and beer battered chicken strips with beer battered fires. It was really good. That night we had a murder mystery party, which was also really fun. Although, It was kind of a last minute thing, so it wan't espeially elaborate, but still fun. This morning Jake made us all brekfast. We pretty much sat around today and played Nintendo, but that was fun and alowed us to just hang out. Now I'm back and get to go to work tomorrow... yay.

Free Money, or Food, or Whatever!

We went to Old Chicago tonight and I had "credit" from a prize. For those of you not familiar with it, Old Chicago is a restaurant and they have the "World Beer Tour" where they keep track of how many beers you've had and give you prizes every so often. Well our waiter didn't know what he was doing and his manager was busy, so he came back and explained how the credit had been taken off my bill, but not my card. So basically I got $10 worth free tonight. And with happy hour we got pizza for $2, so I practically ate and drank tonight for free, and get to go again for cheap. It worked out pretty well in my favor.
